The FAB CE U-space Coordination Group is currently in the process of preparing a demonstration of drone use cases, with a public demonstration and validation exercises scheduled to take place during May 2026 in Rijeka, Croatia.

Demonstrating U-space and Dynamic Airspace Reconfigurations (DAR)

FAB CE will participate in a demonstration with the airport and port of Rijeka, police, civil and military manned aviation and drone flight participants to test U-space and Dynamic Airspace Reconfigurations (DAR).

DAR is an advanced air traffic management concept, primarily developed by the  SESAR Joint Undertaking and EUROCONTROL, to flexibly adjust airspace boundaries of U-spaces within controlled airspace to safely facilitate growing numbers of drones (Unmanned Aircraft Systems or UAS) alongside traditional manned aircraft, by allowing temporary, dynamic sharing of controlled airspace.

The demonstration will test real issues with defined U-spaces and predefined DARs, with different scenarios including up to 10 drones, helicopter emergency service (HEMS) activities, visual flight rule (VFR) traffic and commercial airport traffic. The goal is to have a one-day public demo once all testing and research is completed.
